ABS Audio Newsletter: My "New" Training Methodology
Issue 31: Coach Austin's new training design and rationale.
ISSUE 31:
Austin’s Training: What was it then and what is it now?
Welcome to the 31st issue of the ABS newsletter! Today lets chat about training practices that I have utilized in the past and how my current philosophy has adapted over time. As with most processes (the good ones at least) there should be some adaptation and updates as time passes. With more research data becoming available and more anecdotal evidence/coaching observations of larger sample sizes of clientele it’s paramount to improve over time. Improving, refining, and optimizing plans are pretty defining characteristic for good coaches, business owners, and lifelong learners of all varieties.
So what was my former philosophy and training? I used to operate with a more volumetric progression in training. Adding sets across weeks of training as the primary modifier whilst of course adding some load as well to achieve the appropriate RIR. I would start all movements around 3-4 RIR and progress towards failure weekly. However, I have adapted my approach and now opt for a bit different progression strategy. It’s not a huge 180 degree turn from my former methodology but rather minor informed tweaks to attempt to optimize programming across several metrics.
What have I altered and what metrics have improved? Find out in the audio portion of the newsletter!
The outline of our conversation:
1. General intro.
2. Review of my former programming?
3. What changes have I made?
4. What metrics have improved?
5. Further ideas of improvement?
6. My final thoughts and motivation sendoff!
I greatly appreciate your viewership; catch you all in the comments. Stay tuned for the 32nd issue next week!
