Issue 17: Ice Baths: Should we use them to recover from training?
ISSUE 17:
Ice Baths: Use ‘em or lose ‘em?
Welcome to the 17th edition of the ABS audio newsletter. Today’s topic has been was inspired by a friend of mine who happens to compete at an elite level of competitive sport. What’s more is its also a very physically demanding contact sport (wrestling). The question was asked about the use of ice baths in recovery and how beneficial or not they are. As usual this is a very nuanced conversation and context always matters.
To begin, ice baths can certainly offer some benefits in the recovery department. Especially in the management of performance athletics, this tool is commonly utilized. Does it offer the same beneficial effect outside of that context? What if you or a client is training for hypertrophy? How about strength sports? We will aim to answer these questions and discuss whether we should use ice baths or perhaps pass on them as a viable tool.
