ISSUE 11:
Training 101: What are the fundamentals principles of resistance training?
Welcome to the 11th edition of the ABS audio newsletter. Today we are discussing the fundamental concepts of resistance training. Just like in the nutrition issue these concepts are foundational to the planning process and subsequent outcomes of our resistance training. What does this mean in practice? If we aren’t checking all the fundamental boxes we, very likely, could be leaving gains on the table. That is, certainly, less than ideal.
The previous issue covered periodization and is a great precursor for this conversation. The manner in which we construct a training plan is largely dependent on these training principles. When analyzing programming for folks I always grade on a criteria based on the core principles. The more criteria that are satisfied, generally, the better the program is. Let’s cut to the chase. The core principles are: specificity, overload, fatigue management, SRA, variation, phase potentiation, and individuality.
The outline of our conversation:
1. Specificity
2. Overload
3. Fatigue Management
4. SRA
5. Variation
6. Phase Potentiation
7. Individuality
8. Motivational sendoff!
I greatly appreciate your viewership; catch you all in the comments. Stay tuned for the 12th issue next week!
